I don't know if this deal was ever discussed, and I realize hindsight is 20/20...BUT...
Don't you wish that the Mets had sent Luis Cashstealo (that doesn't count as using his name) to Seattle for Carlos Silva. It's not like the Mariners moved Silva for anything less than a headache, and the Mets could have potentially made that trade and signed a Hudson or Felipe Lopez. But like I said something about hindsight...
Carlos Silva is currently 4-0 with a 3.40 ERA for the Cubs in 7 starts with only 9 walks in 42 innings pitched. I know this would have been a huge risk at the time and no one knew he would have recovered like this, but it's interesting to look at...
Orlando Hudson is hitting .285 with a .368 OBP, 2 homers (homers at second base, is that even allowed?) 11 RBI and 3 stolen bases in 36 games.
Felipe Lopez, who just recently returned from an injury, is hitting .273 with a .347 OBP in 15 games with 1 homer, 4 RBI (all against the Mets) and 2 stolen bases.
Meanwhile Luis Cashstealo is hitting .265 with a .355 OBP, 11 RBI and 5 stolen bases. He also has a slugging percentage of .311, in 32 games this season...
Like I said before there is no way of knowing what Silva would have done, but isn't it interesting to wonder if the Mets could have had one of these two second basemen and Carlos Silva, while NOT having their current second baseman.
Just some food for thought...

Perez Not Great, Bullpen Worse in Mets 9-3 Loss to Cubs
Tonight the Mets fell to the Cubbies 9-3, on what was a terrible night for the Mets bullpen (box score). Perez wasn't overly effective, but this loss really falls on the bullpen who let this game get out of hand. Specifically Acosta and Takahashi really let the Cubs put some space between themselves and the Mets. Perez went 5 innings giving up 8 hits and 3 runs, 2 of which were earned. Acosta, who I no longer want to see more of, went 1 and 1/3 innings giving up 3 runs, and Takahashi went 2 innings giving up 3 runs of his own. Not exactly the best outting from the Mets bullpen.
Interesting to note that Carlos Silva had a nice outing tonight, and has had a pretty good season so far. That's interesting because it was speculated at one point in the offseason that Silva was probably the only guy the Mets could have dealt their current starting second baseman for. I'm just sayin'...
Also, I'm getting really tired of watching Rod Barajas pop out and strike out. I realized he hit a homer today, but seriously, he's hitting .200 with a .191 OBP, I don't think I've ever seen that before. Having a lower OBP than batting average takes serious skills. Can I now say that although I liked Barajas over Santos, Molina would have been better?
Oh, fire Jerry Manuel...
Meanwhile in a not so angry place, the Mets go for their first series win of the season when Johan Santana takes the hill tomorrow night at 7 against Tom Gorzelanny.

Bradley for Silva, Zduriencik for President
As first reported by Larry Stone, it looks like Bradley for Silva deal is real. Heyman's sources are confirming.
To me, this is a huge deal for Seattle. They kill two birds with one stone. They lose Silva, his $12,5 Million price tag and his 8.60 ERA, and take a risk on a guy who is a very capable hitter. I don't know what the Cubs were thinking.
This could mean only one of two things: Minaya must have had ZERO interest in Bradley because Castillo would have been a better return for the Cubs. OR, the Cubs REALLY dug themselves a hole by making it known how badly they wanted to move Bradley and this was the only way out.
ADD ON:
According to Heyman there is some money going from Seattle to Chicago. Now it makes a little more sense, but still bad deal for the Cubbies.
BUT WAIT:
Chicago Tribune's Paul Sullivan has a different number than Heyman. $9 Mill, which somehow nets to $6 mill, counting Silva.. Still a bad deal, but getting better.

Milton Bradley for WHO?
SI.com is talking about the Cubs dealing Milton Bradley for Carlos Silva.
I say do it Cubbies, if you're really that desperate. But in terms of upside I think anyone in their right mind would rather deal with Bradley being a pain in the butt, than Silva giving up a ton of bombs in good ol'Wrigley.
