On his blog for the Daily News, here, Adam Rubin posts the unofficial cut list of guys who will be sent down to minor league spring training.
Here's the list as Rubin lays it out, "Josh Thole, Shawn Bowman, Eric Niesen, Jack Egbert, Josh Fogg, R.A. Dickey, Travis Blackley, Bobby Livingston, Arturo Lopez, Eddie Kunz, Andy Green, Mike Hessman, Mike Cervenak, Jesus Feliciano, Luis Hernandez, Clint Everts, Kirk Nieuwenhuis."
The only real names of note here to me are Thole, Nieuwenhuis, Dickey, Luis Hernandez and Clint Everts. Although, to be completely honest, these names were expected. Thole I don't think was even really ever given a chance to do anything this spring considering the glut of catchers the Mets now have. I think he could use the time to develop, so I'm fine with it.
Interestingly enough there were a few names left off that list. Most notably, Ruben Tejada and Hisanori Takahashi, which tells you two things. The first being that the Mets are not expecting Reyes being ready for Opening Day, and aren't totally confident in Alex Cora. Secondly, that Takahashi is really in the drivers seat to make this team, which he should be considering the way he's been pitching.
Overall, none of these cuts were unexpected. And I think in the next week or so the competition for certain positions are going to heat up. This is when things start to get interesting, as we get closer and closer to Opening Day...
